Milestones

Many different activities will need to be undertaken during the development of a wind farm in addition to consultations and studies. The key events are shown below.

Public Inquiry dates and venue confirmed : 17th Mar 2015

The Planning Inspectorate has confirmed the dates for the Public Inquiry, which is planned to sit for 4 days from Tuesday 29th September 2015. It will be held at Hawtonville Community Centre, Newark, NG24 4JQ.

Appeal Validated : 10th Feb 2015

The Planning Inspectorate has now validated the appeal and decided that it will be determined by a Public Inquiry. We will publish dates as they become available. It is unlikely however that an Inquiry would be held before July 2015 at the earliest. 

The full appeal reference number is APP/B3030/W/15/3003130.

Comments from interested parties should be sent to the Planning Inspectorate by 24th March 2015. Details of how to submit comments are provided on the appeal website. Please note that all original representations regarding the planning application will be available to the Planning Inspector.

Appeal Submitted : 21st Jan 2015

Wind Prospect has submitted an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against Newark and  Sherwood District Council’s decision to refuse the planning application for Fox Covert wind farm last October.

Once the appeal is validated and a Planning Inspector has been assigned, a timetable for the appeal will be issued by the Planning Inspectorate. Newark and Sherwood District Council will advertise details of the appeal and write to all parties who commented on the original planning application informing them of how to make representations directly to the Inspectorate.

Public consultation period closed : 27th Jan 2014

Towards the end of 2013, Newark and Sherwood District Council requested some additional visualisations for the Fox Covert Wind Farm application.  A set of additional photomontages were prepared to further assess the impact to local heritage assets previously examined in our initial application. 

This document can be viewed on the NSDC planning website (click here), through which public representations can also be made.  The consultation period closed on the 17th February. 

Application to extend permission for the temporary wind monitoring mast : 11th Oct 2013

The application to extend planning permission for the temporary wind monitoring mast (reference 13/01398/FUL) was approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council on the 7th January 2014.  We await for formal approval notice, after which further detail will be provided.

Planning Application Submitted : 12th Jul 2013

Wind Prospect Ltd has submitted a planning application to Newark and Sherwood District Council for the four turbine Fox Covert Wind Farm located between Hawton and Cotham, south of Newark-on-Trent.

If consented, the wind farm could deliver a range of economic and environmental benefits to the local area.

The 10 megawatt (MW) development has the potential to generate as much electricity as is used by over 5,400 households. Each proposed turbine has a height of 130m from ground to the tip of the blade when upright.

Environmental Impact Assessment

An Environmental Impact Assessment considered the effects of the proposed development and the results are presented in the Environmental Statement (ES). This is a comprehensive document that accompanies the planning application for the construction and operation of the proposed wind farm. The ES is available to view at the following locations:

• Newark Library, Beaumond Gardens, Baldertongate, Newark, NG24 1UW.

How to comment on the application

Newark and Sherwood District Council will now begin a consultation process with the local community who can comment on the application by writing directly to the council or making a representation online.  When making a representation, the planning application number (13/00889/FUL) should be referenced. A decision on the application is expected before the end of this year.

To support or comment on the Fox Covert Wind Farm application, representations should be made directly to Newark and Sherwood District Council by 2nd August 2013 using the details below identifying the proposal, the planning application number (Reference: 13/00889/FUL) and specifying the grounds for representation. You can:

• Write to Ailsa Berry, Newark and Sherwood District Council Planning Department, Kelham Hall, Kelham, Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire NG23 5QX. You need to include the following information with your letter: Your name and address, the date, the reference number of the application (13/00889/FUL) and your comments.

Predicted wind farm submission : 15th Feb 2011

Details of the predicted submission date for the wind farm will be released later this year.  The survey work we are conducting now and for the rest of this year will dictate the suitability of the site, as well as when the application would be submitted.  Please see the 'Studies' section for more information on survey work.    

Wind monitoring mast successfully installed : 4th Nov 2011

The wind monitoring mast was successfully installed over Wednesday and Thursday of this week (2nd/3rd November).  

Wind monitoring mast - Approved : 8th Aug 2011

The application for a wind monitoring mast was approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council on the 2nd of August.  We are waiting for official notification from the Council, further details to follow shortly.

Wind monitoring mast application - consultation period closed : 15th Jul 2011

The consultation period for the wind monitoring mast has now closed.  It is expected that a decision will be made during the committee meeting on the 2nd of August.  Members of the public are able to attend this meeting.

Request for a scoping opinion submitted : 2nd Nov 2011

We have now submitted a 'request for a scoping opinion' to Newark & Sherwood District Council. 

What is scoping and why do we do it? Scoping is used to identify the key issues of a project. The results of scoping will form determine the scope, depth and terms of reference to be addressed within the Environmental Statement, which will form part of the planning application.

Wind monitoring mast application : 14th Jun 2011

An application for a temporary wind monitoring mast, or anemometer, was submitted to Newark and Sherwood Council on 10/06/2011. 

The wind monitoring mast will provide us with detailed and site specific information about the wind resource, and would be in place for a period of two years.

The application was validated on 14/06/2011 and the Council now has a statutory 8 weeks to determine the application.  The application reference is 11/00819/FUL and can be viewed on the Newark and Sherwood District Council website here.  Members of the public can comment on the application by emailing 'planning@nsdc.info' until 15th July 2011, which is the close of the consultation period.    

Please note that this is a completely separate planning application to that which we intend to submit for a wind farm.  Details of the predicted submission date for the wind farm application will be released later this year.
